Washington Trip Day 4

Today was quite the exciting day in Washington, with a tad bit of museums added in.  The perfect blend of activities.  We started out the day with an early 7:30 breakfast.  From there, we travelled to the Newseum, a museum dedicated entirely to the history and all news.  It is one of the only museums that you have to pay for.  At 9:00, we started exploring the six-story museum, plus a basement, my favourite part being the news coverage.  After spending two hours at this museum, we walked over to the Smithsonian National Museum of art.  It was monstrous, consisting of three vividly artistic areas.  We had a worksheet, where we were ordered to find certain paintings.  After a little less than an hour in this are, we got back on the bus.  We travelled to a locally famous gift shop, recommended by the bus driver.  By then, it was pouring and our baseball game during lunch was delayed.  Instead, we went to the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, consisting of five floors and a large garden area.  Very large and confusing.  After about an hour and a half, the rain had stopped and the baseball game was going to proceed.  It took place in the famous Washington baseball stadium, housing over 75,000 people at max capacity.  We watched the Washington team versus the LA team.  We left when Washington was in the lead.  The food was all fried.  After this, we went back to the hotel, with an optional walk to the Air Force Memorial, which was entertaining.  There were three jet streams, about 200 feet high.  The brief regs got us back on our feet and we were going to the mall, for dinner and shopping.  The four storey mall kept us happy until 8:45, when we went back to the mall.  After this, we went back to the hotel for a quick meeting for someone's birthday.  Then, there was an optional swim, until about 10:30 thanks to the volunteering counselors who wanted everyone to keep occupied.  This was in the hotel and was an exquisite experience for some.  After this, it was straight to bed for everyone.  Thank you for the experience, Asper's Foundation and our dedicated teachers, who provided us with another good day.  Thank you, Washington!
